20-year-old Alexander Zverev won 6-3 6-4 against Roger Federer in Rogers Cup final for his second Masters 1000 title in Montreal, Canada.
The German became only the second active player after Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to win two Masters titles, outside the 'Big Four' of Federer, Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Murray.
Federer, 36, suffered his third loss of the season in the 38 matches he played.
Federer and Rafael Nadal are competing to take the number one ranking from Andy Murray.
While the Swiss will not be playing in the Cincinnati Open this week and Murray still recovering from a hip injury, Nadal is guaranteed to become the number one at the end of the week.
The battle for the year end number one ranking is expected to be a two horse race between the old rivals Federer and Nadal as Murray hasn't won much this season so far and Novak Djokovic skipping the second half of the season to address his injuries.
