''' STUDENTS ''FAT CAT'' SENTINEL '''

UNITED KINGDOMS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERS earn a worker's annual pay, Yes, a worker's annual pay in 3 days, just about in 3 precise days.

BY THE end of of the first three working days of the year, the United Kingdom's top bosses will each have earned on average as much as a typical worker will take home in all of the year, according to a report.

WHILE the difference in compensation appeared stark, it narrowed slightly, compared with the previous year, said the High Pay Centre and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development yesterday.

THE so-called ''Fat Cat'' study comes amid growing investor and political unease in the UK about inflated Chief Executive Officer pay.

''The system has worked a little bit better this year,'' said the High Pay Centre director Stefan Stern.

''We calculate the typical CEO has to work 32 hours as opposed to 28'' to earn an average worker's annual salary, it added.

The past couple of years have been marked by investor revolts against the level of salaries paid to top executives at some UK listed companies, including Sky Plc and Pearson Plc. Other firms adjusted pay packages downwards to avoid protest votes.

''THERE ARE STILL grossly excessive and unjustifiable gaps between the top and the rest of the workforce,'' said Stern.

The latest calculations were based on an earlier finding by the groups that earnings for CEOs in UK's benchmark FTSE 100 dropped by a fifth in 2016 to Pound 4.5 million annually and another showing a CEO-to-worker pay ratio of 120 to 1.

This is far lower than in the US, where CEOs of S&P 500 firms received on average US$ 13.1 million in compensation, giving a ratio of 347 to 1, according to AFL-CIO union.

BUT AND SO, in the second-quarter of 2017, the debt of families rose from US$ 13.9 billion to US$ 14.9 billion in just four months.

WHAT world and growth are we talking about?

In fact we have 86 percent of the population facing increasing debt, but poorer at the same time, because of the concentration of wealth in just one per cent of the population's hands.

This should be the cause for concern for any administration, left-wing or right-wing : in fact it is not surprising that the 400 richest men in the US. led by Warren Buffet, have written to Trump telling him that that they are doing fine and, and they do not need a tax rebate.

And that he should worry about the poorest part of the population.

THE AMOUNT of money hidden away in tax heavens has significantly increased since 2005, sharpening the divide between the super-rich and the rest of the world.

And that was there was a lot of pressure to oblige banks to open their accounts to fiscal inspectors, and pressure on the Bahamas, Hong Kong, Panama and other third - world countries.

Globalisation is obviously rewarding capital, not human beings.

Well, this is having an impact on politics, and not the best one. There is everywhere an increasing number of losers, especially in rich countries, also because of technological development, and a shift in consumption.

A classic example are the coal mines that Trump wants to resurrect, to make America great again.

BUT coal is inexorable being phased out because of climate concerns [ even if not fast enough], and automatisation reduces considerably the number of workers to be employed.

Robots will in 2040 be responsible for the production of 42 per cent of goods and services, up from the present 16 per cent.

Which means around 86 million of new unemployed, in the West alone, according to the International Labour Organisation. Those left out from the benefits of globalisation look at the winners, whom they see as well connected to the system.

This results in the globalisation of resentment and frustration, which in a few years has led to the rise of the rightist parties in all European Countries, triggered Brexit, and Trump.

ONCE upon a time, the left was the banner bearer of the fight for social justice. Now it is the right! The genie is out of the bottle, and the powers that be do not even try to put it back.

Utter hypocrisy, vested interests, and the lack of vision have regrettably replaced policy.
