GLASGOW: Pakistan’s Fatima Zehra has made history by becoming the country’s first female boxer to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games after taking bronze in the women’s 60kg event.
Her run ended in the semi-finals against Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh, who moved ahead 4-1 on the judges’ scorecards in the opening round before the referee stopped the bout in the second.
Zehra had already secured a place on the podium by reaching the last four, with tournament rules guaranteeing bronze to losing semi-finalists. She booked that spot with a commanding 5-0 quarter-final win over New Zealand’s Jordan Wilson.
