The creator of the Y.A. graphic novel phenomenon '' Heartstopper,'' which concludes with a sixth volume and a Netflix movie, has grown up : '' I mostly read fiction about adults now.''

.-  What books are on your night stand?

'' Private Rites,'' by Julia Armfield. It's got a somber energy that makes it appropriately calming for a bedtime read.

.-  What book might people be surprised to find on your shelves?

'' A Short Stay in Hell,'' by Steven L. Peck, an incredibly disturbing piece of liminal horror. Not a lot of sweet teenage angst in that one !

.-  What's your favorite book no one else has heard of?

''2120,'' by George Wylesol, blew my mind. It's a choose-your own-adventure-style graphic novel in which a computer repairman arrives at an office building to find it derelict, but as he ventures inside, things start to get pretty strange.

'' Backrooms'' is very topical at the moment, and ''2120'' has a similar setting. It's probably the scariest book I've ever read.

.-  What's the last great book you read?

I recently reread '' I Love This Part,'' by Tillie Walden. It's a short graphic novel exploring two girls falling in love, only to be torn apart by their anxieties and the pressure of being queer.

Like most of Tillie Walden's work - of which I am an enormous fan - the story is deeply emotive without having to use many words at all.

.- How have your reading tastes changed since you first published ''Heartstopper'' ?

I mostly read fiction about adults now. When I started making ''Heartstopper,'' I was in my early 20s and still very entrenched in the world of young adult fiction.

I still hugely enjoy Y.A., but I usually find myself seeking out older characters nowadays.

.-  How does the ''Heartstopper'' film match up with the final volume of the graphic novel?

'' Heartstopper Forever,'' '' Heartstopper Volume 6 '' and my 2015 novella ''Nick and Charlie'' operate on a Venn diagram, with ''Heartstopper Forever'' in the middle.

''Heartstopper Forever'' is a faithful adaptation of Volume 6 but includes many elements of the '' Nick and Charlie '' novella which I was unable to put into Volume 6.

I like to think of the three stories as alternate universes - they're all slightly different versions of the same moment in Nick and Charlie's lives, but of course, all with the same ''Heartstopper'' spirit.
