COP 30 COG : PRECIS

The ongoing COP30 being held in Belem, Brazil, provides an essential platform for discussing environmental issues, sharing innovative solutions and strengthening global cooperation.

The venue, located in the heart of Amazon rainforest, symbolizes nature's significance and the urgent need to protect our planet's lungs.

However, this year's conference is overshadowed by the notable absence of key world leaders from countries responsible for nearly half of all global greenhouse gas emissions.

Their absence sends a troubling message about their levels of commitment to addressing the climate crisis.

These nations possess both the technological capacity and financial resources to make a real difference.

By choosing not to attend, they appear indifferent to the suffering of millions already facing floods, droughts and heat waves, particularly in developing nations.

The presence of these leaders would have carried great moral and political weight, inspiring stronger global action and reassuring vulnerable countries that the world's greatest and biggest polluters are ready to act responsibly.

Climate change knows no boundaries, and without the engagement of these major powers, the progress made at COP30 may remain limited.
