BEST AUTHOR BEST. : ANNIE LENNOX

IN AN email interview - she compared the lavish coffee table book '' Annie Lennox :  Retrospective '' souvenir of frozen moments '' with '' bite size memories and reflections.''

.-  Describe your ideal reading experience [ when, where, what, how ].

Early evening.

At home or hotel room.

A good reading light.

A comfortable sofa to sink into, with good cushion for support.

No distractions.

.-  What's the last great book you read?

'' Caste,'' an exceptional book by Isabel Wilkerson. I think this should be essential reading for anyone who wants to have a deeper understanding of the roots and effects of racism, right upto the present day.

.-  What book has had the greatest impact on you?

'' When Things Fall Apart,'' by Pema Chodron. I discovered it when I was in the midst of a personal crisis. I envisioned the substance of my life as being shattered into tiny pieces.

This book contains. tremendous insights for brokenness, healing and potential transformation.

.-  Which genres do you especially enjoy reading? And which do you avoid?

I'm drawn to biography, philosophy, anthropology, social history, cultural history. You probably won't find me in the chemistry or science section, neither in the fiction, sports or sci-fi departments.

.-  You write that you often pick up a book '' starting at the back and working through to the beginning.'' Why?

I think it might possibly have something to do with being left-handed. It also speaks to my curiosity getting the better of me, mixed with general impatience and all-around quirkiness.

I always want to see how things end, before wading through the pages to find out ! Finally,  I'm not sure, but perhaps there are other neurodivergent folks out there, who recognize this unorthodox impulse.

.-  Why put out a visual chronicle of your life and not a typical memoir?

First of all [ cue violins ]; None of us are getting any younger and I thought the time might be now or never!

But seriously, dear reader : Over the decades,  thousands of images have been floating around in the zeitgeist.

A few years ago when they were sent up to the '' cloud '' for safekeeping and I thought it might be interesting to collate some of the themes of a life lived and through music making, songwriting, performance and recording.

I'm very visually led, and photographs speak a thousand words, so this book is a kind of souvenir of frozen moments, with bite size memories and reflections to accompany them.
