.- WHO are exciting Indigenous voices?
Ernestine Hayes, Velma Wallis, Laureli Ivanoff and more coming every year. When I travel to schools around the state, I always donate a book to the school library.
One of my favorites is Sidney Huntington's 1993 memoir, '' Shadows on the Koyukuk, an Alaskan Native's Life Along the River.''
.- What books are you embarrassed not to have read yet?
'' Master of the Senate. The Years of Lyndon Johnson,'' by Robert Caro, was given to me when I was first appointed to the Senate in 2002. It's been on my bedside table since then, and I still haven't finished it.
.- What books are on your nightstand ?
I have towering piles on my nightstands in both Alaska and Washington, D.C. and I don't have enough time to read !
'' The Small and the Mighty,'' by Sharon McMohan; '' The Wake of the Unseen Object,'' by Tim Kizziah.
'' Straight On Till Morning; The Life of Beryl Markham,'' by Mary S. Lovell; '' What the Dog Saw,'' by Malcolm Gladwell; '' A Measure Short of War,'' by Jill Kastner and William C. Wohlforth.
'' The Art of Power,'' by Thich Nhat Hanh; '' Love Your Enemies '' and '' From Strength to Strength,'' both by Arthur C Brooks; '' Help, Thanks Wow,'' by Anne Lamott.
'' The Other Side of the World,'' by William H. Eddy; '' How to Avoid a Climate Disaster,'' by Bill Gates.
'' It Takes Chutzpah,'' by Senator Ron Wyden; '' Character Matters,'' by Jean Becker; '' The War Below,'' by Ernest Scheyder.
And '' Master of the Senate '' by Robert Caro.
.- Describe a memorable reading experience ?
Some of my happiest memories are reading with our two boys, when they were babies and all through high school.
To this day, I am told that I'm an excellent '' out loud reader '' which has become a valuable asset in my role as Senator.
