ONE -LADY BIRD- ONE : FILM HONOURS

The best coming-of-age films don't hand you lessons on a plate. They sit with you in that weird in-between where you're too old to be naive and too young to know what comes next.

Here is one that still feels like old friend who knew you before you figured yourself out.

'' LADY BIRD " : In Greta Gerwig's solo directorial debut, Christine '' Lady Bird '' McPherson is a senior at a Catholic high school in Sacramento who desperately wants to leave everything behind-

Her hometown, her financial struggles, her overbearing mother - and go to a liberal arts college in New York '' where culture is. ''  

The film follows her through auditions, breakups, college applications, and the small rebellions that feel enormous when you're seventeen.

There's no big dramatic twist - just the slow, sharp process of growing up, realising your mom isn't the villain, and calling home from a payphone because you miss everything you thought you hated.
