NETFLIX'S : DELHI CRIME' : EMMY

'Delhi Crime' bags Emmy for Best drama. This rape drama won big at 48th international Emmys.

In a major win for an Indian web series at an international platform, Netflix's  Delhi Crime has bagged the Best Drama Series Award at the 48th International Emmys, reported Hindustan Times.

The show is a fictionalized depiction of the 2012 Delhi gang-rape and murder case, with Shefali Shah playing a deputy commissioner tasked with finding the culprits and dealing with the aftermath of the brutal crime.

Richie Mehta, the director of Delhi Crime dedicated the award to ''all the women'' during the virtual award ceremony.

''I dedicate this award to all the women who not only endure the violence that so many inflict on them but are often tasked to solve the problem,'' he said.

''As for the tireless mother and her daughter, not a day goes by when I don't think about you both and what the world subjected you two to. I hope none of us ever forget that.''

Meanwhile, Shah - who played the cop in the show - shared a clip from the awards where she could be seen saying, ''Oh my God.'' ecstatically in disbelief.

Told from the perspective of the Delhi Police team investigating the crime that made global headlines, the series deconstructs the case of the 23-year-old physiotherapy intern who was abducted and gang -raped in a moving bus on the night of December 16, 2012, before she was abandoned on a Delhi road.

Her injuries were so grave that she died in a Singapore hospital a fortnight later, reported PTI.

Performances by its ensemble cast, including Shah, Rasika Dugal, Adil Hussain and Rajesh tailang were particularly appreciated.

Hussain took to Twitter and congratulated the entire team for the win. ''Delhi Crime'' wins the Emmy international Awards for Best Drama. Congratulations Richie Mehta, unmatchable Shefail Shah, dearest Rajesh Tailang and the whole team. Big congratulations!'' he wrote.

Amazon Prime Video's Four More Shots and Arjun Matgur for his role in Made in Heaven were also nominated for an Emmy Award from India for the Best Comedy and Actor categories respectively. Both couldn't register wins.

Last year, Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer Mc Mafia had won the Best Drama Series Award for International Emmys.
