YOUTUBE STUDENTS YIN-YANG

SIR : Social media platforms especially YouTube have revolutionised the process of learning all around the world. It has proved to be great learning tools not only for the students but also for people who wish to polish their professional skills.

However, it has been observed that the administration of different universities in Pakistan have placed restriction on the use of YouTube at campuses.

Take, for instance, the case in the Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, and a premium academic institute where access to YouTube is kept restricted from 9am till 4pm.

When enquired, the administration concerned replies, though ironically, that it is kept blocked so that students can focus on their studies.

It is an irony because in the real world people use tools like YouTube to establish start-up businesses, learn do-it-yourself skills and access quality information but students of Mphil and PhD have to wait till 0400 PM to access online lectures and professional short-courses on YouTube.

The administration must look into this with an aim to revisit their policy.

The World Students Society thanks students M Arslan Mahmood.
