New York Menswear Fashion Week Mooted

NEW YORK may soon have another save-the-date on its fashion calendar, if reports that the CFDA is planning a dedicated menswear fashion week prove to be correct.

For the American designers who decide not to make the trip across the pond to showcase their creations at the established men's fashion weeks in Florence, Paris or Milan - as well as the recently established London Collections: Men - it will come as welcome news. Currently they show at the same time as the womenswear collections in September and February, which frequently results in a poor turnout due to the huge number of shows on the schedule.

"Everybody has a connection to it, because of the patriotism of it all, as American designers" Steven Kolb, the chief executive of the CFDA (which sent out letters to designers gauging interest in October), told the International New York Times. If plans progress, the time of year being mooted for the first showcase is mid-July, around the same time as the other international schedules.
