The Rails, also known as English folk duo Kami Thompson and James
Walbourne, are to release debut album, Fair Warning, on May 5.
Fair Warning, which features both traditional and original songs, was
produced with Edwyn Collins and features Eliza Carthy on the fiddle.
Discussing the album, Thompson says, “There is something about folk as an
ideal that we were reaching towards. The Rails are premiering the video for the
song Bonnie Portmore.
"Music by the people, for the people. Songs so icky, and potent, and
heart wrenching, they could have been written 500 years or 10 minutes ago, it
doesn’t matter."
“We wanted something almost simplistic,” adds Walbourne.
“Singing, fiddle, electric guitar, no tricks. You can hear everything, it’s
bare. It’s hard to convince people to make a record like that now but the sound
is fantastic, it’s so direct.”
