Google lens unravels glucose monitoring for diabetes patients

Here's a good news for the diabetics. Google has revealed a smart interactive contact lens that will keep track of the glucose level in diabetes patients by constantly monitoring their tears. If the glucose levels in the tears are low, the diabetic sufferer will receive a warning.

Many people with diabetes go through an ordeal regularly to keep their blood sugar levels under control. Uncontrolled blood sugar puts at risk for a range of dangerous complications, some short-term and others longer term, including damage to the eyes, kidneys and heart. Some people pass out suddenly in the middle of doing something.

Google is currently testing a prototype for the radical lens using a wireless chip and a tiny glucose sensor. Brian Otis and Babak Parviz, the Project's co-founders say they hope the technology could eventually become commonplace.

In future, Google plans to develop other apps for the smart contact lens, including very small screens, which can alert the wearer about other types of information in his body.
