SCHOOL classrooms are very different places from what they were 20 years ago.
Shiny new buildings, many the result of the Federal Government's Building the Education Revolution, have allowed teachers to use new methods of instruction made possible with flexible learning spaces.
As a result, larger classes are becoming more common.
Once, a double class with 60 children and two teachers would have seemed revolutionary but an increasing number of schools are adopting the idea to make classes more enjoyable and produce better educational outcomes.
SA Primary Principals Association president Steve Portlock said this type of collaboration had been around a long time but was now gaining more traction and would soon be "the norm".
"It allows teachers with a strength in one area to take all the students for that subject, while the other teacher will have different strengths," he said.
