Sony has officially launched its Android packing SmartWatch in the US with the smartphone connecting wrist wear landing stateside ahead of its upcoming UK arrival.

Connecting to your Android powered pocket blower via Bluetooth, the SmartWatch acts as a remote display offering visual alerts and the opportunity to read text messages, emails and tweets without fishing your handset from your pocket.

Playing host to a 1.3-inch OLED display the Sony SmartWatch hooks up to handsets such as the Sony Xperia S allowing users to stream audio stored on their pocket powerhouse turning the timepiece into a personal media player.

Available with a variety of coloured straps the SmartWatch will play host to a selection of bespoke Android based applications allowing users to get the most from their wrist piece.

Sony SmartWatch Release Date

Available in the US now the Sony branded SmartWatch has launched with a $150 (£94) price tag. It is expected the Android garment will set wannabe British owners back around £150 when it hits the UK later in the year.
