An avalanche hit Pakistani army base on a Himalayan glacier along the Indian border on Saturday, 5:45am, burying around 100 soldiers. Helicopters, sniffer dogs and troops were deployed to the remote Siachen Glacier to rescue those trapped, according to a military statement.
There is no report of anybody surviving the mishap.
Siachen is located on the northern end of disputed Kashmir region which is claimed by both India and Pakistan. The war began in 1948. Armies of both countries remain entrenched on Siachen border despite the cease-fire, costing the poverty-stricken countries many millions of dollars each year.
well this dispute was initiated by india once they illegally occupied 75 percent of area and for kind info its stretegicaly important for pakistan to hold this area in order to keep karakoram high way under her control and to contain india from attacking skrdo , gilgit and then may be so on.... and regarding poverty issue ideally there should be no war but once its waged so one should t be reluctant and one gr8 lesson from Holy prophet S.A.W. at time of his s.a.w. death even oil to burn candle or lighten the house was not present (such was condition of finances) but there were 9 swords present at house, so these sweet sounding words like civilization , peace and blah blah are just to de tarck us look was USA isreal and other powers are doing they spending huge amoount of thier finances on military budget , but again i wont say u r wrong bieng poor country we should not spend tht much amount on military instead i would say we better should remove or shed away the menace of poverty thx wid profound regards
