Cambridge University student, 21, killed in three-car crash on her way to rowing training camp


An 'excellent' Cambridge University student was killed in a three-way car crash as she and her friends made their way to a rowing training camp.

Rebecca Chamberlin, known as Becky to her friends, was involved in the collision on the M40 while travelling with three team mates.The third-year English student, at Clare College - selected as cox for the men’s first crew - was airlifted to hospital but doctors couldn't save her life.

Clare College’s boat house flag was at half-mast over the weekend and friends left flowers and tributes to Miss Chamberlin on the pole.A card left by rival team Emmanuel College Boat Club read: 'May Becky’s spirit continue to give you all strength.'

Ruth Howlett, women’s captain of the community Champion of the Thames club, which shares the boat house with the Clare College team, paid tribute to 'vivacious' Miss Chamberlin, who was just 21.She said: 'She was very bright and was gorgeous - it is very sad. She was a lovely vivacious girl who had an excellent rapport with her team.'

Miss Chamberlin, from Stockport, Greater Manchester, leaves behind her father David, who studied Geography at Cambridge University, and mother Fiona.
