The Cabin in the Woods (2012)

The Cabin in the Woods is an upcoming horror film, co-written and directed by Drew Goddard and co-written and produced by Joss Whedon. It stars Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Jesse Williams, Anna Hutchison, and Fran Kranz. It is set for a theatrical release in April 2012.

Synopsis: "The Cabin in the Woods" storyline provides a new twist on a classic scenario -- in this case the young-people-stranded-in-the-woods horror trope. The film starts with two scientists in an underground location discussing a "scenario" and the possible complications that might come of it.

Five friends -- Dana (Kristen Connolly), Curt (Chris Hemsworth), Jules (Anna Hutchison), Marty (Fran Kanz) and Holden (Jesse Williams) -- drive out to a remote cabin in the woods for a vacation. Although the cabin seems peaceful, they begin to feel uneasy and realise that there is something wrong. The scientists in the underground bunker seal them inside the area with a forcefield, and begin to manipulate the emotions and actions of the characters by spraying chemicals and hormones across the area.

The group is compelled to enter the cabin cellar, where they discover a collection of artifacts. When one of them reads a passage from what seems to be a little girl's diary, a group of "pain-worshiping redneck zombies" emerge in the woods. It is revealed that each of the artifacts would have summoned a different monster, and that there are several other groups experiencing their own similar scenarios around the world. These scenarios are not scientific experiments, but rituals, and each one is slowly failing as the groups of victims overcome their monsters.
