Franck Ribery and Bastian Schweinsteiger celebrate going ahead against Real Madrid |
Mario Gomez scored a late goal as the hosts defeated Real Madrid 2-1 in the first leg thriller of the Uefa Champions League semi-final.
Frank Ribery had put the German club ahead when Madrid failed to handle Arjen Robben's corner as the French winger smashed it past Casillas with the aid of a minor deflection.
The visitors got a fortunate leveller after 53 minutes. Cristiano Ronaldo put free on the left by a pass from the middle, one on one with the keeper, put the ball into Neuer's legs as it drops for Karim Benzema on the other side. Benzema squared across goal and Ronaldo was on hand to divert the ball into the path of the Meisut Ozil, who prods into an unguarded net.
Bayren Munich scored the winner on the 90th minute when Philipp Lahm pulled an inviting low ball across goal for the prolific striker, Mario Gomez, to pounce and steer into the net.
The German side now edge Madrid to secure a return to their Fußball Arena München home on 19 May for the UEFA Champions League final.
