Aug 6: Jonathan and Emma Gray both 25 lost their lives when the quad bike the were riding on hurtled into a tree. Resort employee Filip Eugen Petre, 23,was driving the King Quad 700 when it crashed into a tree at 4am.He has been charged under the Maldives Penal Code with disobedience to order.
The mother of Jonathan Gray is defending the man charged with it. She said :
"I still believe that what happened was a tragic accident and not the result of wilful or malicious intention."
The Swedish national worked at the Kuredu Island Resort, where the couple were staying, as a guest relations officer trainee. He is also the son of a shareholder of the company which operates the resort.
The maximum sentence for the offence he is charged with is death, although it has not been used since 1953.
