Google Celebrates Valentine's Day with Loved-Up Doodle, G+ Video Cards

Google has adorned its Search homepage with a video-animation Google Doodle for Valentine’s Day.

The animation is set to Tony Bennett’s “Cold, Cold Heart” and features a young boy trying to woo his love with roses, chocolates and all kinds of gifts.

Over on Google+, Google is encouraging people to send video messages in place of traditional Valentine’s Day cards.

“Forget the love letter,” writes Google Australia, “and say what you really feel in a Valentine’s Day video message. In the home tab on Google+, click ‘Share what’s new...’ followed by the ‘Record video’ button. Next, click the red ‘Record’ button once to start and one to finish. Finally, click on the ‘Add circles or people to share with...’ button. Be extra careful to only send private videos to your love interest and not your circles!”

Microsoft, on the other hand, has chosen Valentine’s Day to make fun of Google’s online office suite, Google Docs.

Microsoft used its Why Microsoft Twitter account (@whymicrosoft) to tweet “Don’t be the guy who screwed up Valentine’s Day. Treat your lady right by switching to @Office Web Apps http://ow.ly/92ZtH #StyleMatters.”

Microsoft also posted a related Valentine’s Day-themed Web Apps video on YouTube showcasing the formatting issues users might encounter if they use Google Docs.
