It allows poor and needy people in developing Nations to get funding for their business ideas despite lacking credit history. Poeple, Governments, and Corporations around the World donate small amounts of cash to the business idea which they think will work. After the Second World War, the MARSHALL PLAN incorporated provisions for micro-credit to help rebuild Europe's damaged infrastructure. 

So, Now
More recently the idea has become synonymous with the GRAMEEN BANK in Bangladesh. The Bank's founder Muhammad Younas claims it pulls 50% of the city's population out of poverty each year. The system has come into its own with the advent of micro-payments over the internet and text messaging, allowing anyone anywhere to contribute to what they feel is a a good idea.
