POWER DARKNESS

The power sector is broken. Make no misake about it ! Power Shorages have already STUNTED GDP growth by upto 3 %. And the energy shortfall is esimated up and beyond 6500 Mega watts. The critical problem is CIRCULAR DEBT. Every component of the "generation to Distribution to recovery" is at odds with each other and owe money to each other. From 2003-7 the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority estimated all tariff revision requests. Later, an incoherent governance structure failed and the operations turned dysfunctional. Pure NATIONALIZATION NOW is a nightmare. Demand Supply gaps are widening. Fresh capital will be hard to come by. And conservation proposals at this stage weak and silly. Fresh approaches and tough decisions are needed to recover or darkness will prevail.
