Parents protest as Oakland School Board threatens to close

Oakland, California- According to a plan put forward by the Oakland School Board, 5 small elementary schools face closure while 8 others wait to be consolidated in an attempt to save district resources.

The schools are said to be underenrolled and as well as underperforming, with the parents blaming the charter schools in the district for the lesser numbers of enrolled students and threatening to remove their kids from the district. A final decision is yet to be made by the board.
