Top Earning Dead Celebrity, Michael Jackson

For the second year in a row, Michael Jackson has topped Forbes magazine's list of top-earning dead celebrities. The King of Pop, who died unexpectedly at age 50 in June 2009, earned an estimated $170 million over the past year, making him the second-highest-earning pop star this year (behind U2) dead or alive.

The megabucks came in from sales of his music, as well as his stake in the lucrative Sony/ATV catalog, and while impressive, was a big step down from the $275 million the Jackson estate earned in the year after the singer's death. Songwriters who own their work tend to place high on the Forbes list because their catalog sales often remain strong after their death, one of the reasons Jackson's posthumous career has been so lucrative.

The magazine speculated that Jackson is likely to top the list again next year thanks to the recent launch of the Cirque du Soleil tribute show "Immortal," which, if successful, could net more touring income for the singer in death than he earned in life.

DA BOMB!!!

Imagine an aircraft crashing with a Nuclear Bomb on Board. For such a scenario the safety features are - "THAT THE WEAPON ABSOLUTELY MUST NOT EXPLODE IN A GROWING MUSHROOM CLOUD!!"
Well, the safety devise is built on the concept of a German Scientist and it is now called MEMS(Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems). Let's conclude by saying it's called 'STRONGLINK'. Telecom students should be knowledgeable about MATRIX SWITCHES. Hope you get the feel.

Not marble nor the gilded monuments Sonnet 55

Not marble, nor the gilded monuments
Of princes, shall outlive this powerful rhyme;
But you shall shine more bright in these contènts
Than unswept stone, besmeared with sluttish time.
When wasteful war shall statues overturn,
And broils root out the work of masonry,
Nor Mars his sword nor war's quick fire shall burn
The living record of your memory.
'Gainst death and all-oblivious enmity
Shall you pace forth; your praise shall still find room
Even in the eyes of all posterity
That wear this world out to the ending doom.
So, till the judgment that yourself arise,
You live in this, and dwell in lovers' eyes.

Fastest Internet Connections in the World!

Hussain Ali

From Akamai, Second Quarter 2011 ‘State of the Internet' Report, countries having fastest internet connections are South Korea with 13.8 Mbps average connection speed, Hong Kong with 10.3 Mbps average connection speed and Japan with 8.9 Mbps average connection speed.

THE INTERNET OF THINGS

Last week the Financial Times ran a great article, ’Welcome to the ‘Internet of Things’, by Chris Curran, leader of technology strategy and innovation for PwC.

The Internet of Things refers to a fast-growing and seemingly infinite eco-system of embedded devices in computers, cars, smartphones, appliances, - even clothing, books and toys – all connected to the Web and all producing data about who we are, where we are, and what we are doing.  For example:
  • A modern car may have as many as 200 sensors, measuring everything from engine performance to tire pressure. The data is collected and analyzed by on-board computers connected to the car’s internal network. The sensor data can be used to detect problems but also to give statistics on the use of the car.
  • Billboards along highways are equipped with sensors designed to assess how drivers fit consumer profiles and instantly change displayed advertising messages based on those assessments
  • Estimates are that there will be about 400 million wearable wireless sensors by 2014. These sensors will monitor blood pressure, heart rate, levels of hormones, blood components and more.
  • Pill-shaped micro-cameras can traverse our digestive track and detect issues and abnormalities
  • Livestock are being equipped with radio frequency identification tags (RFID) tracking their whereabouts, environment and activities
The Internet of Things delivers a ‘connected life’ with immediate access to data, media, communities and communications across a broad range of devices.  This connectivity and information brings a raft of benefits including increased efficiencies, targeted communications, improved safety and health, and more.  But it also brings a raft of challenges – not the least of which is: how can companies tap all that data to improve products and services.

Micheal Moore Faces Criticism on Occupy Wall Street

The documentary filmmaker, Micheal Moore who has been active and vocal in the Occupy Wall Street movement since it began in September, faced criticism on his personal wealth and his involvement in a movement.

"I make my money the old school, honest way by making things. Some years I earn a boatload of cash. Other years, like last year, I don't have a job (no movie, no book) and so I make a lot less. 'How can you claim to be for the poor when you are the opposite of poor?!' It's like asking: 'You've never had sex with another man -- how can you be for gay marriage?! I guess the same way that an all-male Congress voted to give women the vote, or scores of white people marched with Martin Luther Ling, Jr. ... It is precisely this disconnect that prevents Republicans from understanding why anyone would give of their time or money to help out those less fortunate.

He also said:
"I am devoting my life to those who have less and who have been crapped upon by the system," he said. "And that's how I spend my time, my energy, my money on trying to up-end this system that I think is a system of violence, it's a system that's unfair to the average working person of this country."

Apple is one of the richest companies in the world. But more interesting is the fact that its richer than Super Power America!!! In July, 2011 US Treasury Department said that Washington now has a total operating balance of $73.768 billion. And just this month, Apple has disclosed that they currently have $81.570 billion. iPhone 4S Battery Drain

Though iPhone 4S was a success setting market records & so many positive reviews, owners have been reporting a big problem with their new smartphone battery life.

"My iPhone 4 for the last few days has started to get very hot in use and the battery is gone very bad. Leaving the phone on standby can see the battery drain nearly 20% in an hour. This is gone to the stage where I have to turn it off at times just to save battery during the day..." From an official Apple forum.

Justin Bieber Collabos Mariah Carey And Busta Rhymes

Hey Beliebers, you can celebrate the holidays early this year! Just days before he officially releases Under the Mistletoe, Justin Bieber is gifting fans with the early release of two high-profile duets off the November 1 album.

First off, his highly anticipated Mariah Carey collabo, an updated mix of her Christmas classic "All I Want for Christmas," made its way online. The song, posted on Rap-Up.com, opens with Bieber and Carey exchanging vocal runs. Mariah's verse, which sounds very much like the original, goes first. Then Bieber, singing in a deeper register than usual, joins in for the second verse.

On Bieber's collaboration with Busta Rhymes on the classic "Little Drummer Boy," which was posted on Hitfix.com, the boys threw some club beats and synths over the old-school Christmas track. The song gets a bit of an edge when Bieber, a skilled drummer himself, appears as his rapper alter ego Shawty Mane.

Rising College Costs

According to Matthew Philip's article written in freakonomics.com college costs are rising faster than cost of living and medical expense. After college costs, medical costs rise is also significant.
